What happens next

## From first message to a written estimate.
Every enquiry comes straight to Charlie Barnett — there is no call centre and no sales team in between. He reads the details, calls or emails you back (usually the same working day) and asks whatever he needs to understand the job properly before anyone talks about money.

-
### 1. A short conversation
A quick call to understand what you want to achieve, roughly when you'd like the work done and whether drawings, structural input or building control involvement are likely.

-
### 2. A free site visit
Charlie measures up, looks at access, existing structure and services, and talks through the options in person. Site visits across our service area are free and carry no obligation.

-
### 3. A written estimate
You receive a written, itemised estimate setting out the scope discussed at the visit. Where a complex project needs drawings or design work, that is quoted separately and the fee is deducted from the final job cost if you proceed.

-
### 4. Booking the work in
Larger projects are confirmed under a written contract agreed before anything starts; smaller jobs proceed on an accepted written estimate. Any change to the agreed scope is priced and agreed in writing before it is carried out.

## What to include in your enquiry
The more you can tell us up front, the more useful the first call will be. Helpful details include:

- The type of work — kitchen, bathroom, extension, loft conversion, wardrobes, media wall, roofing or general carpentry and joinery.
- Your postcode, and whether it's a house, flat, listed building or new build.
- Rough sizes or room dimensions, if you have them.
- Any drawings, planning references or product choices already made.
- When you'd ideally like the work to start, and any fixed deadlines.
- Photographs — a couple of phone pictures of the space usually saves a whole conversation.Nothing here is compulsory. If you only know that a room isn't working and you want an opinion on what is possible, that is a perfectly good starting point.

## Who you're dealing with
Barnett's Bespoke is a sole-trader business run by Charlie Barnett, who is City & Guilds Level 3 qualified with over 20 years' experience on the tools and is a BM TRADA certificated fire door installer. Smaller jobs are carried out by Charlie personally; larger builds run with a core team of carpenters plus trusted trade partners for groundworks, electrics and plumbing.

All installation work is covered by a 12-month workmanship guarantee, and we carry £1,000,000 of public liability insurance — a copy of the current certificate is available on request. Reviews are published independently on Trust a Trader, where you can read feedback from previous customers before you get in touch.

## Where we work
We work from Great Hormead near Buntingford, and most projects sit within about an hour's drive: Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire as our home patch, along with Buntingford, Stevenage, Bishop's Stortford, Hertford, Ware, Hitchin and parts of London. If you're just outside that area, it's still worth asking — larger projects often justify the travel.

## Response times
Enquiries sent through the form or by email are normally answered the same working day. If Charlie is on site with tools running, a call may go to voicemail — leave a message or drop a text and he'll ring back between jobs. For anything urgent, the landline is the quickest route.

Straight answers

### Is an estimate really free?
Yes. The site visit and written estimate cost nothing and put you under no obligation. Design or drawing work on complex projects is quoted separately before it begins.

### How far ahead should I enquire?
Small joinery jobs can often be fitted in within a few weeks. Kitchens, bathrooms, extensions and loft conversions need longer, so it's worth making contact as early as you can — the diary is booked in order of confirmed work.

Hertfordshire-based bespoke carpentry, joinery and high-end home renovation — led by Charlie Barnett, a sole trader with over 20 years' experience, City & Guilds Level 3 qualified in carpentry & joinery.
